δ13C Stratigraphy of the Birmania Basin, Rajasthan, India: Implications for the Vendian- Cambrian Transition

چکیده
Overview The paleogeographic reconstruction of the late Neoproterozoic assumes a marked significance due to the fact that the interactions between the biosphere, atmosphere, hydrosphere, and geosphere during this time strongly influenced the evolution of life and initiated a remarkable phase of organic evolution, well documented in the rocks of this age. Time-related changes in these carbon reservoirs and processes during the late Proterozoic have played an important role in the evolution of the environment and of life (Des Marais, 1997). Brasier (1992) discussed, at length, various factors which pushed the shallow marine ecosystem of the late Neoproterozoic-Cambrian towards P-limitation and suggested that nitrate fixation, density stratification and massive removal of P in the sediments were responsible for the formation of phosphatic deposits within this time interval. The East Gondwana assembly of continents provides fine examples of stratigraphic successions in which the ideas related to oceanic stratification, phosphate deposition, enhanced organic production and carbon isotope fluctuations can be verified and correlated from continent to continent (Banerjee and Majumdar, 1999).

Atmospheric warming induced changes in future rainfall and implications on water and agriculture in India
The projected rainfall change under various scenarios is likely to have both positive and negative implications on agriculture and water supply because in rainfall pattern across the country. Rise in rainfall is seen over all states except Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu, which show slight decrease in precipitation in the future scenarios. Marked increase in covering the Western Ghats and nort...
متن کاملStratigraphy and Palaeontology of Trilobites in Kuhbanan Formation in the Akbar-Abad Section (North of Kerman)
Cambrian sedimentary facies are exposed throughout north part of Kerman region. Trilobites’ faunas are the most common invertebrate fossils within the Cambrian strata. The section is made of 217 m of sandstone, shale, limestone and dolomite. In this study, 153 trilobite samples including seven species and genera were identified from the Dahu section 12 Km. east of Zarand. This trilobite’s assem...
متن کاملCambrian Depositional History of the Zanskar Valley Region of the Indian Himalaya: Tectonic Implications
A well-preserved Cambrian section in the Zanskar Valley of northern India has previously been interpreted to record the transition from a passive to an active tectonic margin related to Cambrian–Ordovician orogenesis. This interpretation has been used to support the tectonostratigraphic interpretation of other successions across the Tethyan Himalaya. Our detailed paleoenvironmental analysis sig...
